PASTORS & STAFF

Randy Copeland

Senior Pastor

I was born and raised in Gadsden, AL until the age of 13 when my family relocated to Hartselle, AL. After years of being raised in the church I decided to take my own path that lead to much heart break and regret. At 25 years of age I found myself at the end of myself as an alcoholic and drug addict. In April of 1995 I cried out the Jesus Christ and asked to be saved. In that moment a miracle occurred and not only was I saved but was also delivered from the addictions that had scarred my life.

In 1996 I became a member of Decatur Baptist Church where I faithfully attended and grew in the ministry. In September of 2000 I married the love of my life Cyndi after meeting her in the singles ministry of the church. In 2005 I was called on staff at Decatur Baptist where I served for seven years. In 2010 Cyndi and I were blessed with our son Ryder. In 2011 I became the pastor of Columbia Baptist Church in Columbia, Kentucky where I served for two years. In 2013 we left Kentucky and moved to Moulton, Alabama to become the pastor of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

Jim Fiscus

Associate Pastor, Worship & Education

I was born in New Castle, Indiana. At the age of three my family moved to Northwest Alabama where I was raised. My dad was a preacher and we were very involved in church. I gave my life to Christ April 19, 1993. Shortly after trusting Christ I surrendered to ministry. Over the years that ministry has included serving at a number of different churches in various roles. Much of that time has been as Senior Pastor; but I have also enjoyed working with youth, children, senior adults, and of course, worship and education.

I am very involved in the Muscle Shoals Baptist Association where I serve as the Men’s Ministry Director and on the Mission and VBS Committees. I also serve with the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions VBS team, training VBS leaders across North Alabama.

On August 24, 1996 I married the greatest woman in the world, Christy. We have 5 children, David, Steven, Nathan, Courtney, and Sarah as well as numerous grandchildren. In 2017 I felt God leading our family to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church to work with the Music Ministry. I currently serve as the Worship, Education and Media pastor.

Austin Dutton

Student Pastor

I was born and raised in Moulton, AL. I was very blessed to grow up with a God-fearing family who made church a priority. I accepted Christ as my Savior my Junior year of High school in 2009. Through the rest of high school and college, my lifestyle didn’t always reflect that of a Christian. I tried to find satisfaction in so many things this world had to offer. I was in church the whole time... I was saved, but I was too selfish to give up my wants, my desires, my time, my friends.  I graduated nursing school from UAH in 2014 and married Ari in 2015. Little did I know what God had in store for my life.

Two defining moments happened in my life to help me finally realize that I had made Jesus my Savior but not my Lord. First, I started getting discipled by a deacon at PGBC. This discipleship relationship held me accountable to praying and reading my Bible. He helped me in adjusting to my new career as a nurse and helped me through many burdens in my life. I would not be here today surrendered to the ministry without this discipleship relationship. Second, On January 1, 2020 at Mission Focus, a Living Faith Fellowship conference in Kansas City, I rededicated my life to the Lord. I surrendered my life to ministry. I did not know what that looked like with me being in healthcare, but I told God wherever, whatever, whenever.

God opened that door here at PGBC and through faith and prayer here we are. I came on staff here as the Full-time student pastor in December 2020. I’m looking forward to pouring my life into the young people here at PGBC after this church has poured so much of its life into me the last decade.

Nathaniel Johnson

Children's Director

I was born and raised in Speake, AL. I was blessed to be raised in a Christian home and my parents made sure I was in church when the doors were open. When I was seven years old, I made a profession of faith because my friends were doing it, but I had no understanding of what it truly meant to make Jesus my Savior. Ten years later, on July 14th, 2016, at the age of 17, I came to the end of myself. God showed me that the emptiness and brokenness I felt in my heart was from the void of His son Jesus Christ not dwelling there. In that moment, I gave my life to Christ believing in the death, burial, and resurrection, repenting of my sin, and asking Jesus to come into my heart.

Immediately, I knew my life belonged to Christ and that He had a purpose for me. I began to search for a church body that would make me feel loved and welcome but would also equip me to serve the Lord. My first visit to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church was the only one I needed to know this is where God wanted me. I was welcomed with open, loving arms and yearned to be a part of the spiritual growth process through life-on-life discipleship that was talked about.

As I grew in the Lord through discipleship here at Pleasant Grove, so did my desire to serve the Lord in full-time ministry. During this time, I married a remarkable woman named Gweyn. Years later, God would ultimately use her burden for children’s ministry to cultivate within me a desire to devote my life to the spiritual growth of children and families. I am blessed to serve the Lord as the Children’s Director of Pleasant Grove alongside Gweyn and our two children, Oliver, and Ellie.
